Obituary of Donald Murray Logan

Please share a memory of Donald to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Donald (Don) Murray Logan Donald (Don) Murray Logan, age 79 of Afton, NY passed away unexpectedly on Friday, December 12th. He was born on May 3rd, 1935 to Murray Charles Broadhead Logan and Martha Delphine (Silvernail) Logan, both of whom predeceased him. Don attended Sidney High School, but left during his senior year to join the Marines. Once out of the Marines, Don obtained his GED and then spent the rest of his adult life as co-proprietor of Logan & Sons Supermarket in Sidney, NY along with his father and brother. He could often be found behind the meat counter at the store sharing stories and laughs with his customers. Don enjoyed hunting, bowling, cutting wood, and mowing lawns with his wife, Betty, on their matching "his and hers" mowers. One of his favorite activities was socializing with anyone he ran into. A quick cup of coffee at the diner turned into a two hour meet-and-greet when you were with Don. It was rare for him to go anywhere and not run into at least one person that he knew. On the second Tuesday of every month, Don met a group of his closest buddies for lunch. Don was the "social coordinator" for this group, often calling to remind everyone beforehand, or calling those who had missed to make sure that they would be there next time. Don was a regular at Afton Central School sporting events as he loved to watch his grandchildren and great grandson in whatever they happened to be playing at that time. Don was also an active volunteer with the My Brother's Keeper Quilt Group, making sleeping bags for the homeless. Several times a year, he and Betty would make the trip to Pennsylvania to deliver what had been made to the organization's headquarters. Don is survived by his wife Betty, and children Mike (Leslie) Logan, Debbie Logan, Cindy (Mike) McGee, Tom Logan, Terri (Bill) McCall, Bill (Deb) Bunzey and Martha (Jeff) Sims; 16 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Jackie Shields and brother, Murray Logan, and many nieces and nephews. He will also be greatly missed by his constant companions, Charlie and Muffin, who could always depend on him for pats on the head and pieces of whatever Don was eating. Visitation will be at C.H. Landers Funeral Home in Sidney, NY on Monday, December 15th from 6-8pm. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, December 16th at 11am at the First Baptist Church in Afton, NY. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to any of the following charities, each of which was important to Don.
